How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia and exit at Albenga and continue along the S.S. 582 of the Colle di S. Bernardo towards Garessio. After passing Cisano sul Neva there’s Zuccarello.
It is a charming town of the hinterland located in the Neva valley and it was founded in 1248 the year in which the Marquis Clavesana decided to make it a new feudal center of the Zuccarello area.
Later it was dominated by the Marquis Del Carretto that lasted until 1623.
The following two years were dominated by a war between the Savoy’s and during this time Zuccarello was under the possession of the Republic of Genoa.
In 1625 it became property of the valley.
Today, Zuccarello is a town of the Ponente that has a great historical and environmental interest and it was able to maintain its original Medieval structures.
When you walk down the streets or under its porticos you will be enchanted by this unique town that seems to have been untouched by time.
From the summit of a rock that dominates the town you can admire the ruins of a castle built in the first half of the 13th century by the Marquis Clavesana and later it became the home of Del Carretto.
Very famous is the Roman bridge, however this is not its real name since it was built in Medieval times.
Among the religious buildings very interesting to visit is the 17th century Parish Church of St. Bartolomeo that has a fantastic Romanic bell tower.
Very beautiful are the medieval porticos that developed longitudinally on the restored main street.
