In 1341 it was prey of the Genovese that attacked the port.

After this, there was a gradual movement of the population that went to the original residential area in order to settle on the opposite side of the Capo. This is how the Medieval Varigotti originated and its traces can still be admired today.

The town still preserves the features of a fishing town.

Its old homes enlivens the typical architectonic Mediterranean style and they are located in an enchanting scenery of shapes, aromas, and colors that make up Varigotti’s natural background.

The modern part of Varigotti developed in the last 10 years. The town has become a famous seaside resort and many tourists come here to enjoy a relaxing stay.

On the summit of Capo Varigotti there are the ruins of the ancient Lombard-Byzantine “castrum” of the 7th-9th centuries.

The Church of St. Lorenzo Vecchio is located in front of the Saracen Gulf, which, was once an ancient port and it dates back before the 12th century.
