How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Savona.
The charming city of Savona is the county seat of the province as well as the port of the Riviera di Ponente. The city has Roman origins and its first settlement was Priamar where a 16th century fortress is located.
Savona was destroyed in 640 by the Lombard’s and it was rebuilt in the 9th century by the will of the Emperor Ludovico I.
It was a free town that was in continuous battle with Genoa and in 1528 it was forced into vassalage conditions.
It was annexed to the French Empire in 1805 and during its restoration it was assigned to the Savoy State.
This city is located on a flat territory at the mouth of the Letimbro Torrent and you can see the various stages of its expansion since various civilizations crossed the city.
The newer part of the city developed beyond the Letimbro Torrent that gave life to an important industrial and commercial center.
In fact, Savona is divided between great works of art and modern buildings. In fact the city was frequented by numerous civilizations throughout the centuries.
Some towers date back to the Middle Ages and the most famous one is the Leon Pancaldo Torrent.
The Palazzo Della Rovere and the Palazzo Lamba Doria have Renaissance origins.
