How to get there: You can exit at Orco Feglino from Highway A10 Genoa-Venitmiglia or from Finalborgo a few kilometers from the SS 1 Aurelia.
The territory of the local government occupies the green Alta Valle dell’Aquila located in the hinterland of Finale that has about 800 inhabitants. Along the Strada del Vino or dell’Olio the two communities Feglino home of the local authorities and Orco, developed among beautiful vineyards that have breathtaking bike paths. The year 1142 highlights the domain of the Marquis Del Carretto and today you can still admire the ruins of the old medieval castle. On the hill that dominates the town you can admire the ruins of the ancient “Castrum Orchae” and a 10th century quadrangular tower.
At Orco you can visit the 14th-15th century Church of St. Lorenzino that was recently restored. The Church contains elements of a preexisting church of 1195 and inside you can admire 1400 and 1571 frescos. Very beautiful is the small bell tower built with bricks and it faces the Val Cornei.
At Feglino the Parish Church of St. Lorenzo is a 19th century reconstruction and the lower part of the bell tower is of late gothic. The Church of St. Rocco is beautiful during the summer during the celebration of the Patron Saint because it is a destination for religious pilgrims. In the last ten years the Orco Feglino territory is an interesting spot for those who love to rock climb on an international level. The well-equipped rock climbing facilities of “Pietra di Finale” offers about 2000 different itineraries of “free climbing” on the white limestone walls of Monte Cucco, Rocca di Perti and Boragni. At bight the Sanctuary dedicated to the Blessed Maria Ausiliatrice appears very sacred and austere. It has a Gothic style and its façade faces the mountains between olive groves, vineyards, and flowers. But Feglino offers great possibilities for all sport lovers because it has many bike paths immersed in its green nature.
Those who love paragliding are pleased when the wind blows and gently moves their multicolored “human kites” that delicately move among the mountains. Inns, trattorias, and restaurants offer the best local gastronomical products that are accompanied by an excellent Lumassina D.O.C. and it expresses the delicate quality of the foods of the Finale hinterland. |
