How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Finale Ligure and you will easily reach Calice.
Scattered in the Finale hinterland you will find Calice Ligure, which was an ancient marquisate of Del Carretto of Finale. Throughout the centuries it went under the domination of various individuals such as Federico Barbarossa in 1162, the Court of Vienna in 1560, the Spanish in 1598, the Republic of Genoa in 1713, France in 1796, and the Napoleonic Emperor from 1805 to 1815.
Today Calice is well known vacation spot because it has an ideal position between the sea and the quietness of fields and woods.
A large part of tourists and the nearby inhabitants are attracted by the celebration of the Patron Saint in May as well as the traditional “September 8 Fair.” The 18th century Baroque Parish Church of St. Nicolò was built on top of the ruins of a 1200 construction. Inside you can admire 18th century paintings.
On the street towards Finalborgo you will come across the 15th century Renaissance Church of Sebastiano. There is also the St. Libera Chapel built in 1550 and recently restored. There are a few ruins of Roman bridge and Napoleonic ditches that highlight the past of this town.
On the street towards Gorra is the Church of St. Lazzaro that has a precious Renaissance portal. The more interesting excursions are those to Monte Settepani, Pian dei Carsi, the beautiful Grotta of Pian Marina, and the Bric del Frate. The nearby town of Perti has the Church of St. Eusebio with a Romanic crypt of the 11th century.
A little further ahead there is the Church of the five bell towers of N.S. di Loreto.
