Albisola is an important seaside resort and it is famous for its ceramics, which is an art that has ancient origins. It was an ancient Roman center as well as Albisola Superiore.
During the 16th century the town became an autonomous government under the protection of Varazze until 1798 and later under the protection of Savona.
The beautiful small city doesn’t offer just magnificent beaches, fertile plains, and soft landscape but a fantastic and admirable artisan history.
The ceramic industry has always been important in Liguria and Albisola knew how to increase and enrich this beautiful art. The ceramics of Albisola are easily recognizable due to there shape, elegant designs and the beautiful colors. In fact, this art has always had important masters in each epoch especially in the 17th-18th centuries.
Today, this tradition is still passed down and the artists are able to produce creations that enchant its admirers.
A magnificent 18th century building is the Villa Duarazzo-Faraggiana that was built in 1590-1598. There is also the Baroque Parish Church of Nostra Signora della Concordia.
Albisola Superiore is an ancient town that has many Roman ruins and of particular interest is the Villa Gavotti that has been included in many movies because of its beauty. The villa has 16th century origins and it is surrounded by a splendid park full of statues and sparkling fountains.
When crossing a Medieval bridge you will arrive at the Parish Church of St. Nicolò that was built in 1067.
Very beautiful is the promenade of Albisola Marina where colors blend together that reflect in a crystal clear sea.
