TheTagliolo Monferrato Castle
Its construction dates back to the domination of the Marquis Del Bosco and it was partly destroyed in the battle between Genoa, Malaspina and Sforza. The tower is the most ancient part of the castle and it dates back to the 10th century. In fact, it was already present during the first investiture of Ottone I. The upper part of the tower was built during the Genovese domination that dates back to the 15th century. The older parts of the castle that remain today in the north courtyard are the 14th century embattled tower, the trapdoor, and the Medieval drawbridge.
The other parts of the castle are of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries and in some way it summarizes it history as time passes. The castle was restored at the end of the 19th century and today it is still in great condition. Inside it has a vast collection of ancient paintings and a very interesting collection of Medieval spears that was displayed in 1897 in the Valentino castle of Turin. There is also a precious library and an interesting historical archive that contains documents of the Republic of Genoa as well as documents of Tigliolo during the Imperial feud.
