How to get there: exit at Arquata Scrivia (Highway A7 Milan-Genoa).
Carrosio is a small and cute town located in the upper Lemme Valley along the old commercial route that united Genoa and the Po Valley.
After its strategical construction it became the object of battles for its possession that went from the Genoa Republic to the Sabaudo Piedmont and finally to the province of Alessandria in 1859.
Carrosio underwent many battles, but the year 1798 was without a doubt the longest event that characterized the 18th century in the Piedmont region. The battles triggered an action of the Giocobina Republic of Carrosio against the Duke of Savoy.
There are many important pieces of art and history such as the “Rocca del Lago” that was already mentioned in documents that date back to the 12th century. In fact it has intact complexes in stone that are very fascinating.
There are also signs of old Medieval bastions that you can admire along the walls of the stronghold that surround the town. Of great value is the 17th century Chapel of Misericordia as well as the precious Parish Church that has a beautiful Baroque façade.
Carrosio is highlighted by an awesome ecosystem, in fact, the town is located on the boundary between the Natural Park delle Capanne di Marcarolo, which well-known for its wine: Cortese di Gavi.
The nearby area is very rich. It has woods and lush plant life that extend throughout the hills creating the perfect environment for delicious and mushrooms.
At Carrosio it is easy to see foxes, badgers, weasels, hedgehogs, squirrels, hares, roebucks, deer’s, and wild boars. These animals live in an ideal, untouched and extraordinary environment.
There is also a lot of water that creates a natural scenery that highlights the wild life.
