How to get there: exit at Sestri Levante (Highway A12 Genoa-Rosignano) pass Castiglione Chiavarese for St. Pietro di Vara and you will reach Sesta Godano.
If you want you can exit at Brugnato or at Corrodano. Since the town is six miles form Brugnato this is how Sesta got its place-name.
The octagonal tower that still remains of the Godano Castle dominates the extended territory that today is scattered throughout the hinterland all the way to Lunigiana and the Piacenza and Parma territories.
Many of the communities still dedicate there time to agriculture.
It has Medieval origins and its Medieval road takes you to enchanting places such as Rio and Groppo that contains beautiful and magical homes.
The two main towns are Godano and Sesta. Godano is located on a hill left of the Gòttero Torrent while Sesta is located at the foot of the valley and it was developed along the main course of water of the valley.
Sesta is the home of the Municipality and it has a precious Medieval bridge with three arches.
The Parish Church of St. Maria Assunta and the 1700 Baroque façade also known as Robbiano.
The Castles of Rio, Groppo, and Godano depended on these structures. Very interesting is the bell tower that highlights the large piazza.
The small road of St. Margherita dates back to the 16th century and in the 1800’s it became a spectacular country agglomerate that functioned as a place of rest.
The beauty of the Gòttero Torrent is perfect for relaxing excursions where one can be in contact with nature and legendary rustic towns. |
