| Sarzanello Fortress |

The Fortress sort on the Sarzanello Hill and it was of a great strategic importance during the Serezzana Battle.
Within the Cittadella, it constitute one of the most important monuments in Sarzana County. |
Its building was decided by the Medici Family who after having fortified town decided to extend the old tower situated on Sarzanello hill.
Works were given to Francesco di Giovanni well known as “Francione” and Luca del Caprina.
The construction was completed during centuries and there were apported many broadening, even if it was always followed the project of Francione and of Caprina. |
Furthers modify were apported during 18th century by French, who building gunboats and military accommodations.
So Fortress became as well as we can admire today: an extraordinary balance of technology and power. |
