How to get there: exit at Sarzana (Highway A12 Genoa-Rosignano). From Sarzana you can reach Bocca di Magra and Monte Marcello.
You can also exit at La Spezia and go to Lerici and then take the road for Sarzana. After a panoramic route you will reach the green hill of Monte Marcello that is about 300 meters above sea level.
This typical Ligurian town has a particular shape and it reminds us of the ancient castrum where its place-name originates Console Marcello. In this area he beat the last Ligurian resistance of Levante.
The secular villas are typical of the Ligurian region and they are beautifully painted with pastel colors. They are located on the tip of the promontory that separates the poetic gulf of La Spezia from the Magra River.
You can also admire pieces of the ancient castle walls and the original residential area that was altered during WWII because of nearby military installations on Punta Bianca.
Very interesting to visit is the Parish Church that has a beautiful 16th century marble triptych that portrays Jesus on the Cross as well as St. Rocco and St. Sebastiano.
Monte Marcello is a community of Amelia and it is a large town that is frequented by artists and intellectuals that can exalt there feelings while admiring the Gulf of Poets.
While wandering around the narrow alleys you can enjoy the fascination of past times. Among the two industrial realties La Spezia and Massa Carrara you can still admire its magnificent environment that can be seen near the picturesque homes and enjoy the typical Mediterranean flora.
There are many paths that lead to the sea and they represent joyous corners that can be admired during any time of the year.
This is where the Regional National Park of Monte Marcello and Magra originate and after watching a beautiful sunset after a drink in a typical restaurant you will enjoy minutes of relaxation.
