How to get there: From the coast road Ameglia-Marina of Carrara you can reach Marinella.
Exit at Sarzana (Highway A12 Genoa-Rosignano) The sandy plain in front of Luni already existed in Roman times. This area is beautifully characterized by its perfect geometrical irrigated canals.
Since the 19th century there have been well cultivated areas and this reminds us of the territories of Imperial age that cultivated vineyards as well as cereals.
The port of Marinella was a swamp and it was always object of discussion for its possession. Historical documents state that it belonged to the community of Sarzana that gave it to Pier Francesco of the Genovese Fieschi family in 1692.
The “Piano di Marinella” went to the Serra family and in 1865 to the Fabbricotti brothers. This is how the Villaggio Fabbricotti was created and in 1957 it was urbanized along the coast road.
Many pine trees surround the famous seaside resort and it has extended sandy shores as well as equipped facilities that offer great comfort for the more demanding tourists.
The legend of Luni can be interpreted in the archeological diggings where art and mythology have united. In fact the Museum of Capitolini Treasures was created in order to admire this union.
The nearby town of Fiumaretta located neat the Magra River is scattered along the Ameglia plain. |
