How to get there: exit at La Spezia or Brugnato (Highway A12 Genoa-Rosignano). You will go along the road of the Cinque Terre.

Corniglia is very enchanting and it is protected form sea storms. It has played a fundamental role as a station for the Fieschi family during the Middle Ages.
Gothic arches in black stone are placed under the Parish Church.
Vernazza was used as a place of shelter by the coastal towns due to the Saracen raids. The Gothic Parish Church of St. Peter has a beautiful façade made out of the local stone.
It was built on top of a sacred Romanic building that dates back to 1334. On the Piazzetta there is the Oratory of the “Disciplinati di St. Catherine” that has the tradition of the “Casacce” even in the far Levante.
The findings of a castle in the 16th century and the massive Genovese fortifications confirm that the town was dominated by Fliscano.
From Corniglia there are wonderful roads that lead to St, Bernardino, Manarola and Vernazza. These roads will take you through a rich cultivation of enchanting vineyards.
When the sun sets the town becomes quite and the only sound you can hear is the soft crashing of the waves. |
