Traveling along the magnificent Via Aurelia that is near France you will find the National Route 7 that has many curves. It will take you to Latte a Scalza and then Villanella where you will find the enchanting town of Mortola Inferiore.

The historical Aurelia is dominated by the Grimaldi center and the Villa allows you to admire its beauty and the awesome medieval Tower.

Ponte St. Ludovico opened in 1964 and Ponte St. Luigi was built in 1806 by Napoleon Bonaparte and these are the easiest ways to reach Monaco and the nearby Costa Azzurra.

From the Customs area you will travel along a street of Roman origins that will take you to the promontory of Balzi Rossi.

The rocky walls are known for there unique composition of a red limestone and the caves make up a real temple of the prehistoric Mediterranean.

Diggings began in the second half of the 19th century as well as in 1928 and during the post-war period fossils of great importance were to be displayed. Such findings included: late Paleolithic human burials, fossils of elephants, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, reindeer, and groundhogs.

These findings highlight the different levels of plant and animal life that existed during prehistoric times and they have provided precious information on the anthropological development of man (from Homoerectus to the man of Cro-magnon).

You can also admire inscriptions on the cave walls and a precious Museum is opened to the public near the cave of Barma Grande.

At Mortola Inferiore you can admire another natural masterpiece that developed thanks to the determination of an English merchant who fell in love with the Ligurian Region.
Daniel and Thomas Hambury bought the Palazzo Orengo in 1867 and they created a the most famous botanical garden of Europe as well as an air-conditioned park for exotic plants: Villa Hambury.

The fountain of the dragon, the statues, the Roman inscriptions found of the Via Julia Augusta, and the splendid Villa make up a unique paradise that contains Mediterranean flora and rare tropical plant species.
