How to get there: Highway A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia exit at Ventimiglia or Bordighera and go along the Aurelia. Along the coastal road you will find Camporosso Mare and in the hinterland you will find this unique historical center.
This large town is dividend into many communities. It is located near the Nervia River and its place-name comes from the original red oleanders that coloured its fields.
It is the oldest town of this area and for a long time it was tied to Ventimiglia up until 1686 and then it was annexed to the Republic of Otto Luoghi.
Today, Camporosso is not only a vacation resort but, because of its fertile land, fantastic climate, and its closeness to the sea it has become the home of many individuals that work near the coast but prefer the tranquillity of the hinterland.
The important Romanic Church of St. Pietro dates back to the 9th century and its original structure has been slightly modified due to restorations. However, the bell tower has remained intact.
The 15th century Parish Church of St. Marco is dedicated to the Patron Saint. Not far away you can admire the 1649 Oratory dell’Suffragio in Baroque style with a wide staircase.
Continuing towards Dolceacqua you can admire inside the Church of St. Andrea a 1st-2nd century memorial stone.
Among alleys and arcades you can admire the old homes that extend towards the piazza of the Oratory. A great tradition is the feast of St. Sebastiano held in January with a unique laurel tree decorated with coloured Hosts.
Very enjoyable is the excursion to the Ciaixe hill as well as the enchanting environment near the Nervia River. It is a fantastic tourist attraction and during the warm seasons it is a meeting place for the inhabitants of the town near the coastal area of Camporosso Mare.
