How to get there: Highway A12 Genoa-La Spezia exit at Rapallo, follow the Aurelia road direction La Spezia.
Zoagli is located at the base of the Semorile torrent and it is surrounded by olive grove hills and villas, making it an important sea resort of the Riviera di Levante.
The town faces a small beach that separates it from the railway tracks. The structure and typology of the town has been significantly altered due to WWII bombings.
The towns has pre-roman origins. Passing from the rule of the Fieschi to that of the Republic of Genoa, the town was fortified, with towers (of which a few are still standing), against the invasions of the Saracens of the '500s. During the 10th century it was under the jurisdiction of Rapallo but, during the Napoleonic era it gained its own administrative autonomy.
Zoagli is well-known for its silk velvet production that began in the 13th century and from the 15th – 17th century its production grew significantly.
However, today the production of silk velvet takes place only in two factories.
Of great importance is the Parish of S. Martino built in 1725 by A.M. Ricca, but during the war it was partially destroyed.
Once inside the church you can admire frescos by Raffaello Resio, a 15th century tabernacle, two wooden sculptures dedicated to Maragliano, paintings by Ligurian artists of the 17th – 18th centuries and a table by Teramo Piaggio.
Of great interest and beauty is the seaside promenade that has been carved in the rocks. Here you can admire two 16th century defense towers, the one in the West is now incorporated in a villa.
