The burg of Senarega is certainly one of the most important of all Valbrevenna. During the last centuries Senarega was an economical and administrative place of main importance, attested by the presence of the castle.
Walking around the town' road it is possible see the tower of fortalice that stand out on the roofs of the small rural houses composing Senarega.
Characterized by a simple structure, the manor-house compose itself of two major partitions, the tower and the residency. The tower was built in 12th century, while the residency is dated near 15th century, when the town was a feud of Fieschi family.
The rooms, few but rather large, put over the near Church, using a secret subway.
The most interesting part of the fortress is constitued by subways, used as prisons and communicating by a little rocky stair, with the "room of torture". On the wall and ceiling we can see the big iron rings used for tortures and the gallows of prisoners. On deck, ceiled by two wood board, was found an hatch. Presuming an ulterior secret way, it was discovered a very sad function. Insides this, a type of narrow acclivous slipway, brings to a room. On the walls of the slipway, horizontally collocated, some sharp iron blades were applied to disquieting function of cut the victims. Now, to attest of these shivery stories, rests a communication trench, collocated upon the river, where the tortured bodies were flung. |
