The harmonious center of Savignone is located at the foot of Mount Pianetto. It is surrounded by green and it origins were lost in the mists of times.
The first settlements date back to the 4th century B.C. after having recognized the Roman and Barbary civilizations. Then during Medieval times the town became a secure central feud of the Fieschi family.
There are many important historical events that took place such as: the stay of St. Agostino and the last assault on the castle by the Savoy in 1624 that ended with the Genoese victory. In 1800 Savignone is the “pearl of the mountains” a thermal resort for the Genoese aristocrats and today it is still a beautiful resort for a relaxing summer stay.
The Fieschi Castle is located on a cliff and the crest of the mountains gave the castle such a natural and secure shape that it didn’t need to be further fortified. It was built in 1207 by the Tortonesi and early on it became the Fieschi stronghold. It was also a theater for battles, plots, and love affairs. The square is a beautiful corner that is in the shade of the 16th century Fieschi Palazzo, which today is a luxurious home.
The hotel is surrounded by a secular park and it is the oldest that exists in the Ligurian Region. The Church of St. Pietro Apostolo was built in the 13th century and it was then rebuilt in 1691. It has a rich artistic patrimony and there is also an interesting canvas by G.B. Carlone and a precious wooden statue of Maragliano.
In the community of San Bartolomeo there is the Historical Museum of the Upper Scrivia Valley and it contains findings that were discovered in the valley that date back to pre-historic and Renaissance periods. The picturesque Museum of the Alpines presents a historical collection of “black feathers” and it offers pieces of recent history. Mount Maggio, Sorrivi, and Vaccarezza have inviting mountain oasis and they end with the beautiful Apennines that surround Genoa.
For those who love culture and theater Savignone presents a rich summer program that has been awarded the “Oscar del Mare 1999” and it is the local government that had the most tourists in the Ligurian Region.
