 Rossiglione 2

Logo Rossiglione Rossiglione is located in the Stura Valley and it is characterized by manor’s that have their own architectonic style even though they have often been hidden by the numerous works that have been carried out throughout the centuries. These manor’s were built during the 17th and 18th centuries as well as the oratories, which proves the vitality of the past centuries. Structurally, Rossiglione is divided into two towns: Rossiglione Superiore, which developed in a compact way along the Berlino torrent and Rossiglione Inferiore, which is located along the left side of the Stura Valley. Rossiglione Superiore dates back to the 14th century and it still preserves some of its old urban fabric in the center of the town. Here you can observe arcade homes on stocky pillars that have low arches as well as coat of arms.

Of great interest is the Parish of St. Catherine that dates back to the 15th century and later it was modified. Inside you can observe the alter-piece of B. Castello which portrays the Annunciation and the wooden group of the Madonna degli Angeli with St. Anthony attributed to Maragliano. However, Rossiglione Inferiore has a different origin because its founding dates back to the 12th century. Here early industrial activities were carried out and other towns of the Stura Valley benefited as well due to the presence of water. These industries were specialized in the production of iron and glass and it reached its peak during the 16th century.

Later these industries were replaced with spinning and cotton mills, but today they have become specialized in furniture and confectionary industries. Up until the 60’s the Ligurian Cotton Industry operated, which was the last to take down their flag. There was then a progressive emigration of manpower towards the Genoa industries. In Rossiglione Inferiore you can observe the oratory of Assunta, which is a magnificent example of 18th century architecture and it contains famous, even if partly ruined frescos by Andrea Semino that date back to 1636. You will notice that they portray a town of great urban, artistic, and historic interest. Although these characteristics are important, we have to add its natural features such as the settlements of the Stura Valley. This area has a wonderful summer climate, the green of the vast woods that surround Rossiglione makes it a great spot for excursions. The community of Garrone with Lake Ortiglieto, the Berlino and Gargassa Valley that are located along the torrent and they are included in the protected are of Beigua.
