The residential area of Masone meets with the Vezzulla, Masone and Stura torrents. Its landscape is very beautiful and it offers many excursions.
The Stura Valley is located on the Po side of the Ligurian Apennine’s. The richness of this area is its vast woody area. In the past very few individuals lived on the territory and the only protection they had was the castle of Masone.
This area was loved by the Lombard nobility hunters and when the large estate was given to the Marquis Malaspina they were then called Marquis del Bosco (of the woods) because of the vast woodland.
The abundance of water, the presence of some mines, and the possibility to produce coal and wood favored the establishment of activities tied to iron working. Still present in Masone is the production of nails, goods for the nautical sector, and the working of wrought iron.
Of great importance is the agricultural sector. The town council, from an urbanistic point of view is divided into three precise parts: the old town center that is located on the back of a hill. From here you can observe the new part of town that is located between the Vezzulla and Stura torrents.
Where the Masone stream meets with the Stura torrent there is the Borgo Mulino.
At the beginning of this century the valley was characterized by the widespread of summer holiday resorts of many Genoese families. This phenomena can be seen due to the numerous villas in the area.
Throughout the centuries Val Masone has remained unchanged.
In fact this area gives you the opportunity to come into contact with nature just like when Luigi Stazielli lived in the Region.
