Isola, feud of Malaspina since 1235, became in 1526 property of the mighty family of Spinola. For the desire of whose that built the Castle of Cantone and the Castle of Piano.
Erected in the second half of the 13th century, the Cantone castle, overlook on a straight part of the Scrivia river. Unfortunately, only few signs remain of the original structure, we think that it had a square plan and an ample inner courtyard. The towers are partially visible in the four corner, this presupposes that the building was used to fortified residency. The manor-house lost its function of control with the end of feudal age and, in 1819, was sold to the Denegri and Zuccarino Families, whose used all the structure like a simple Habitation. |
