In 1914 Gaspero Defilla bought a sort of tavern from the Sanguineti family and in quick time he renovated it and make it the center of society life in Tigullio.
With its 15 windows Gran Caffé Defilla was the greatest Caffé in Liguria, and, today, 100 years later it still remains.
At its tables real history pages have been written, in fact among the guest of Caffé Defilla.
We can mention personality such as Rita Haywort, Alberto Sordi, Toto’, Gino Paoli, and also political VIP such as the presidents of the Italian Republic Antonio Segni and Sandro Pertini and the senator for life Giulio Andreotti.
Therefore Gran Caffé Defilla can be considered the hart of cultural life in Tigullio.
From the beginning of 20th century till the threshold of twenty-first century, Gran Caffé Defilla, has changed more than once management, and each one has contributed to increase the charming image of this refined and historical Caffé.
Today, the owner Mauro Pietronave with his barmans, cooks, confectioners and waiters continues the great tradition of “Defilla” enriching it of a restaurant and of a refined enoteca, one of the most well-stocked in Genoa’s province.
Gran Caffé Defilla is, rightfully, a “name” amongst the ”Cento Caffé D’Italia” (100 Café of Italy), a prestigious classification that gather the histories about one hundred cafés that made up the history of small and big towns, contributing to write down the Nation’s one.
