The Church of St. Stefano

At the end of the square there is the Church of St. Stefano that has been recently restored. The project was designed by the “master” Simone Scaniglia and it dates back to 1718 –1722. It has a clean architectonic style with a elliptical base, which was popular at the time. The length of the church inside is double its height and once it was completely white so in that way the light and shade created a beautiful effect on the niches and gold stucco. Today the church contains many frescos by Lombard painters that worked from 1922 –1923.
The vault presents scenes from the life of St. Stefano, the Gloria Celeste, the Virigin, and the Saints. On the side alters you can notice (second to the right) the wooden group of the Crucifixion (at the end of the 18th century) and in front of it there is a marble statue of the Madonna del Rosario (1839). The alters in marble and stucco date back to the 18th century as well as the Crucifix on the main alter (1724) and in the niche you can observe the wooden statue of St. Stefano carved by Francesco Ravasco in 1769 and it was restored in 1999.
