I Palazzi dei Fieschi The Casella living room...The Fieschi Palaces...
A few feet away from the station you will come across the beauty of the square XXV Aprile, the “living room of Casella” with its magnificent 17th century structures of the Fieschi family that surround the sides of the square.

It originated from the ancient branch of the Comites Lanvaniae (Counts of Lavagna). At the end of the 12th century the Fieschi family created two new branches: Torriglia that derived from Tedision and Savignone that derived from Opizzo.

Opizzo dominated the territory that included Casella up until 1797. He drew up laws (there are two versions of the statute that date back to 1487 and 1630). He administered the justice thanks to a loyal Commission and Podestà and he ensured order through a regular military that would control the area from April to October in the various palazzi that were built at Savignone, Casella, and Crocefieschi.

In Casella the noble family experienced a great success in the 13th century and it was also the birthplace of 72 Cardinals and many Bishops.
