Logo Comune Camogli Camogli is an ancient seaside town that is located in a basin of olive groves and citrus trees. Camogli overlooks the Paradise Gulf and it closes in the east with the Portofino promontory.

For some time tourist activities have substituted those that were directly linked to the sea, which is an old and rooted tradition that began to decline at the end of the 19th century. However, this process didn’t cause a disorganized growth of Camogli that has a unique structure and extraordinary environmental elements that make it a fantastic tourist attraction.

The settlement of Camogli originates to prehistoric times as demonstrated by findings discovered around the 70’s. During medieval times the Camogli coast was formed and from this moment onward its history was strongly tied to the sea. The Fieschi family protected the town of Camogli and in the 16th century it unified with Genoa that helped fortify the port, which ended with the construction of the pier in 1624.

In the last century Camogli underwent a major expansion after the battle of Abukir, in which Camogli was almost completely destroyed. This event allowed the Ligurian fleet and ship owners to invest considerably in capitals for the construction of trading vessels that were then let out on contract to the European states.

At the end of the 19th century the maritime activity of Camogli declined due to the steamboat. Therefore all the activities tied to the sea were replaced with tourist activities.

On the second Sunday of May Camogli holds the traditional “Sagra del Pesce” (Fish Feast) that is combined with the feast of S. Fortunato as well as S. Prospero who is the protector of Camogli.
