One of the lower passes of the Apennine Mountains is Giovi and it divides the Polcevera and Scrivia basins.
This pass also divides the rocky Alpines and the Apennines.
After the Giovi pass you will continue along a road that will lead you to a small valley that has many fields and shrubs. This road will take you to Busalla, which has become a summer resort of the Upper Scrivia Valley.
In fact, it was a natural trading spot between Genoa and the hinterland. It also became a prestigious spot for the Genoese aristocrats and there once was a casino.
The construction of the freeway favored the industrial development of this area in particular the oil and engineering industries.
Villa Borzino has become the office of the Comunità Montana of the Upper Scrivia valley and it is also the home of the Antola Park.
Even though this area is dominated by the industrial economy you can’t forget that it is a great hiking area due to its geographical position.
Some of the excursions you can participate in are: the Bocchetta pass that reaches the valley of the Busalletta torrent and along the coast of Mount Poggio and the natural path towards the artificial lake of Busalletta.
We must also mention its cooking that is ironically called “poor peoples cooking,” but in reality it is genuine. It uses ancient and simple tastes that are produced in this valley such as: mushrooms and chestnuts.
