Logo Comune Borzonasca Continuing along the road that takes you up to the Sturla torrent and the Bocco pass, through woods covered with chestnut trees, you will come across Borzonasca that is situated where the Sturla and Penna torrents meet.

It is located on the valley floor near the old road that takes you to the Aveto Valley and it is surrounded by the Ramaceto and Aiona mountains.

The local government is located on an important business road and in the past it benefited from this strategic position.

There are valid traces of the past such as: the Oratory of the Saints Jacob and Philip, which has a portal that dates back to 1554 and the Parish Church of St. Bartolomeo of 1628.

These areas were once dominated by the Conti of Lavagna and they had built many strongholds.

About 4 kilometers form the town, continuing up the valley of the Borzone torrent you will come across the Abbey of Borzone. Originally it was a monastery that depended on the monastery founded by St. Colombano in Bobbio. In 1184 it was raised by the archbishop of Genoa, Ugone della Volta and it was then donated to the Benedictine’s of Marseilles.

The external walls, the presbyter, and the tower of the church still maintain there original aspects.

From Borzonasca you can go on numerous nature excursions. You can reach Prato Sopralacroce, which is a summer resort by going up the valley of the Penna torrent.

Lake Giacopiane is an artificial basin that was obtained by damming the Calandrino torrent. From the lake you can go to Cappella delle Lame and then Lake Lame located on the side of the Aveto Valley.

Then you can also hike up various mountains such as: Monte Aiona (1692 meters), Monte Penna (1735 meters), and Monte Agugiaia (1090 meters).

After admiring its beautiful nature you can then savor Borzonasca’s typical dishes, which its main ingredients are chestnuts and cheeses produced in this valley.
